Mission Sunday

Our Elders have designated Sunday, March 20, as Mission Sunday. Our speaker that morning will be David French, the director of Daybreak Mission, which is       located approximately 20 miles south of Lusaka, Zambia. David has served as a minister and missionary for more than 40 years, starting as a missionary in Kenya in the early 1980s. After preaching for various congregations in the United States, he and his wife, Lorie, decided to return to Africa on a full-time basis in 2003. In 2004, they moved to Zambia to work with Daybreak Bible College, which grew into Daybreak Mission.

Daybreak Mission is one of Woodson Chapel’s mission points. Its mission statement is “to develop/train self-supporting spiritual leaders who are equipped for holistic rural ministry in Zambia.” It operates several different ministries: Daybreak Bible College (the primary ministry), Kerin’s Kids Children’s Ministry (which includes a facility that can house more than 25 children), Daybreak Christian School (grades K-7), a school lunch program (which provides protein-enriched lunches for 120 primary school children), an optical clinic (which provides eye exams and both reading glasses and prescription eyeglasses), and a grinding mill (which grinds corn into meal). These various ministries provide a wide range of services to the community, but they also provide practical training for the Bible students in the college. That training enables the graduates to be self-supporting preachers and teachers of the gospel, as well as instructors to the people in the villages where they go of how to be better farmers.
